Also in these difficult times a lot of companies are encouraging employees to take career breaks as it means they can keep their skilled staff, but able to give them unpaid leave for a number of months whilst they wait for economic climate to improve. Companies are more likely the approve for your career break if you are going to get new skills which will help the company in the long run, like learn a new language, do good around the world and not just going backpacking around Australia for a few months! Speak to your manager / human resources department explain how long you have worked there for, what you want to do, etc. During the meeting listen carefully and pickup on any comments made that you can develop further in your application. Sometimes it helps to guarantee that you will work for the company on your return for a minimum a year, etc. If you are happy to continue with your application then write a good letter, explaining everything in your meeting, include any answers to any concerns from your company, expand on what you intend to do, promote the positives as much as possible. If you are using a company to book your career break through then they will always be happy to give you a letter explaining your break.
Submit your application, cross your fingers and hope for success. If they don’t approve your application then ask for feedback and try again! Good luck.
