"Nothing can now prevent us from reaching that wonderful land which stretches so clearly before those eyes which are opened to see it."
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, 1919
Learn Spanish, help South American communities, explore the Orinoco Delta by kayak, learn how to survive in the Venezuelan jungle like Warao Indians, trek to the top of Mount Roraima, visit historic cities, go on a jeep tour into mystical highlands, relax on Venezuelan beaches, kayak, climb, abseil - do all this and much much more!
This unique Yomps adventure is a fantastic blend of exploration, excitement, and learning, in which we will gain a fantastic knowledge of the Spanish language whilst going on exhilarating adventure expeditions in a stunning country of remarkable diversity. Based in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, this three month expedition will take us to golden palm fringed beaches, lush exotic jungles, mysterious mountains, Caribbean islands and vibrant cities, to explore, meet indigenous cultures, learn Spanish, and dance to the beat of exotic Latino!
Our main bases will be one of Venezuela’s most beautiful beaches, Playa Colorada (literally ‘The beach of many colours’ in Spanish), and one of Venezuela’s most culturally active University cities, Merida (also known as ‘The City of Gentlemen’). From these stunning locations we will embark on amazing adventure travel expeditions, which will include going on a jeep ride to La Gran Sabana (literally ‘The Great Savannah’) and trekking to the top of the world’s highest tabletop mountain, Mount Roraima. We will also swim in crystal clear Caribbean waters, kayak under the lush canopy of the Orinoco Delta Jungle to visit remote areas and meet indigenous tribes, and experience the unique culture of the Warao and Pemon Indians.
Over the three months, approximately 150 hours of Spanish lessons will be fitted around our adventure for the day, with learning designed to be interactive and spontaneous. Rather than being cooped up in classrooms our Spanish lessons will be taken in the open air of South America to make speaking Spanish seem entirely natural, thus progressing our written and oral communication from the very first day.
Our Spanish skills will progress so much that during our final month we will be able to interact naturally with the local community as we work on local community projects. By helping the local area, we will be aiding an under privileged but extremely beautiful and vibrant country, which will not only provide us with a fantastic knowledge of the Spanish language, but also a fountain of amazing memories to take home. For those with limited time, we also offer the first 8 weeks of the 12 week program as an alternative shorter package.
